The Sports Trainer Level 2 course builds on the foundational skills of SISSS00118 Sports Trainer Level 1. This program is designed to deepen your knowledge and capabilities, enabling you to play a more significant role in ensuring the safety and well-being of athletes and sporting events.

The Level 2 course is tailored to provide a higher level of understanding and skill development in areas such as advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy, emergency care for suspected spinal injuries, and pain management, teaching crucial skills for safety during sports activities. Participants are expected to assimilate this higher level of knowledge seamlessly into their role as a Sports Trainer, contributing to safer sporting environments and organisations. It is ideal for those involved in sports-related roles, including club volunteers and sports enthusiasts.

Units Delivered

The following units will be included in your certificate:

HLTAID015 - Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy
PUAEME008 - Provide pain management
HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
PUAEME007 - Provide emergency care for suspected spinal injury

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 16 Hours
Online with face-to-face assessment Face to Face contact time of at least 3 Hours

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins.

Online study:  Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

This course has a pre-requisite of SISSS00118 Sports Trainer Level 1 which must be completed prior to undertaking this unit of competency. 

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of bag-valve-masks, oxygen equipment, an AED and placing the casualty into the recovery position)
  • Perform CPR on an infant
  • Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed and provide oxygen
  • Maintain resuscitation equipment
  • Assist a conscious casualty with suspected spinal injury into supine position
  • Manage an unconscious breathing casualty with suspected spinal injury
  • Manage an unconscious non-breathing casualty with suspected spinal injury
  • Two (2) pain management and handover to paramedics scenarios (Options include: Aspirin, Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Methoxyflurane or Entonox)

Documentation: 

  • First aid incident report forms
  • Drug register log

Theory assessment  A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.
